Golden masses golden fingers

Watching the news, you know it is NOT the time to travel right now. Why compete with the GERZILLIONS of Chinese going to Hong Kong, Macau and yes, even Bali? The economic spending power of Chinese has definitely soared and now we see them everywhere. This afternoon I was having my fav Fish Fillet and next to me were 2 young Chinese gals going thru their spoils of the day. They bought so many things even though they are students starting school next week.  One day we will shift the Great Spore Sale to Oct becoz of these masses that move around during their Golden Week. For that one week, if all of them just 'pooi-ee', we will all drown! :) Nothing essentially against them but P was commenting that we are seeing a whole lot more of them around now in the neighbourhood. And of course me trying to squeeze up a bus with them.... not fun any more.....*sigh*

Excuse me, are you a boss?

I dun think I can ever be the boss of a business. The Towkay Neo maybe :) But not the boss. Today as we were having dinner, I was staring right into an opticial shop. It is not a big branch of some big name but it is a small area in a new shopping mall. And the only guy in there was this tall thin guy wearing specs and looking really bored. Not only bored but also anxious. He would be leaning on the edge of the shelves and smsing or pacing the shop from end to end (which took like 5 mins). Often, he would stare at 'potential' customers and then when they pass by, he would pace some more. He counted the boxes on the shelves thrice in 20 mins. He makes me feel bad just by looking at him. The wierd thing is, I think he might actually attract some customers if he would sit down and read some documents. I would be scared off by him. Not that I can help him in anyway. Becoz I spent $5K to ensure I dun have to go to an optician for the next 10 years (hopefully). But I know I just cannot handle this kind of stress like everyday lor. I dun have the stomach to be the boss. It is nice to have your own hours and your own way of doing things but I just cannot sit and wait for people to pay the bills for me. Cannot. I would be biting nails everyday wondering if I can pay for my next meal. P agrees.... we are so BOTH workers for life.

Those 3 words

Was watching on TV Mobile on the bus and it was re-runs of "Wellness Villa". Spore's version of reality TV - didnt really take off I guess. We dun like to stare at other Sporeans' lives or perhaps more possibly, we dun like to be stared at for our flaws and being bitchy on TV. The women were watching a video where their family members say mushy stuff and they cry. One woman was very touched when her mum says I love you. She was like "my mum never told me she loves me in my face but I know she does". My own parents have never told me they love me. Not in my face tho. I also never need to hear it from them. We are typical chinese no-touchy-feely-kissy-gushy types I guess. But I always know they do love me. My dad would peel prawns for me. He has never hugged me but he will eat up the veggies I hid in his rice to avoid detection fm my mum when I was young - without a word. THAT is love. My mum cooks me my fav lotus root soup everytime I go home to see her - THAT is definitely love since she knows I love it. She even trys to record my fav TV shows when I was in BJ. I will never need for my parents to say those 3 words. They are etched in my heart forever. I hope they dun need me to say it to them too. That they feel it from me. Of course it is NICE to say it. Even nicer to show it by hugging. P prob has to say it like 3 times a day - ha ha ha.... but parents.... different lah......different level and it's something that surrounds your heart. Your partner may be in your heart, but your family is the one that holds it.

Drawn to the light

My piggy sits at my cubicle and stares up to the ceiling light. He gives me inspiration to look up, not down when things are rough. Looking up, you will see a bigger world with far far horizons. Looking down, you only see your feet. My piggy has 3 other piggy frens - all pigs. They sit like Humpty Dumpty..... you know, what you put on your table speaks of who you are. One colleague puts flower pots, another bare walls, another puts key chains given by others, another Poohbear toys!! Of course all girls lah. Guys have less tendency to express themselves thru such displays. Most guy desks are either very clean and neat OR super untidy.

Stoning at midweek

Sometimes I think I am in camp. You know those school camps you go to when you meet new people, do strange new things and dun stay in your own familar surroundings and you dun recognise your own bed. Have been having some neck aches - not sure if they are due to staring at the comp all day or I have to change pillow. Maybe I am not used to this new house yet. Plus I am still getting used to staring at the comp all day :) I even stopped watching TV so much. No longer chasing all those drama serials. Good thing? Used to really hate missing an episode of Grey's or CSI but I am not watching the latest season at the moment. Simply too tired from SQUEEZING up the stupid bus in the mornings I suppose. I think I grew up without realising - that I am part of the working masses and I complain all the time like a true SG. Stoning..... and looking forward to SLEEPING during weekend!!!

"U" kids on the block

Got that green sticker on my IC. Havent gotten to know all the neighbours yet but there was this middle aged couple who were quite chatty. In fact, the uncle was able to come by and talk house renovation ideas for 2 hours straight!! It is interesting to get ideas but 2 hours sure makes you wonder how else to escape and do our own thing on a precious weekend! Being near an expressway also makes you the first to know when a car accident happens. I shld know since I used to stay right next to PIE at Kim Keat. Almost everyday you get some careless or reckless driver making some noise. P was commenting that dead in the night pple really like to RACE but I was too knocked out to hear anything (and I thot I was the light sleeper). Other things to show for it is the layer of dust you get on the floor no matter how many times you mop. We even took to wearing slippers like in BJ - except in BJ you wear it more for cold since there is AYI to help you clean!!!! A fren just hired a weekend cleaner and he raved abt how good she is that we are tempted.... we really shld have hired someone to help us unpack though. I had to repack the storeroom at least 3 times dragging out heavy boxes of winter clothing fm BJ. These are NOT fun things to do. But it is begining to be nice to come home - your own home :)

Another change Another start

And so the day finally arrived that I have to change my address in my IC. Not that I had the TIME to even drop by the police post - which I hear is ONLY open during day time (where are all the man in blue? Who says crime only happens during day time?!) - but physically speaking, I now walk a different path to go home. Home is where the heart is but you wun be very heartful when you see the GERZILLION boxes stacked up in the hallway. I think we killed like the Brazillian forrest in throwing away paper wrappers. What's with all the kiasu workers who warpped a small cup in at least 10 huge rolls of papers? We are so so so so tired out that all we want to do is sleep. Not even eat. P has bruises on chest (from heaving very heavy boxes up) and toes (dropping paintings down). I have bruised heel (from landing on toolbox when I stepped down from a chair) and very aching arms (from lugging at least 2 weeks of unwashed clothes etc etc). All in all we agree that we will NEVER do this again. Unless we elope to another ctry without anything or we hand the keys over to Salvation Army -

Too tired

Tiring day since after work we went to new place to paint the window ledges outside the balcony parapet. The nice thing abt being married is you dun have to do these things alone. A friend commented that she regretted being married but it's not her hubby's fault. She just prefers to do her own thing and be independent. I agree being single has its benefits. Sometimes you just miss having your own timing and to go wherever you want at your own leisure and go out with whoever you want. Now you always have to think of the other person. Yet going thru life with your hand held by another is kind of reassuring too. There is no perfect life either way I guess. As we trudge up the hill to go home, with our limbs aching and eyes drooping, it is being tired together that keeps us going on.....thank God for the other person in our lives even if he/she gets on our nerves at times, grinds teeth during sleep, sometimes lazy to brush teeth and forgets to hang the towels after use :)

Corporal punishment

We have found our perfect way to punish our future kids: if they are naughty, they will have to scrub the living room floor with a toothbrush. No need for caning and hitting. Just a simple toothrbush. That is how we spent our last Sat - using toothbrushes to scrub the grooves glistening white. The contractor had done twice but it wasnt as white as we wanted so we decided to roll up our sleeves to DIO!! WAH PIANG EH!!! Back breaking work ok!! We had to bend and scrub using acid wash and then splash water to wash it away, then mop it all up and finally mop again with water to make sure acid doesnt stick to the floor. I think I have never bend down for HOURS for so long such that we didnt even break for lunch. It was whole 6 hours of scrubbing..... how the heck did the army recruits do it?!?

On the road again...

The first day of work is like the first day at school: you are quite blur and you just smile at the other newbies. That is after you squeezed with gerzillion passengers when your bus comes late (Murphy's Law for first day at work). Then you watch boring videos and make small talk while you wait for your dept colleagues to come and get you. Just like going to different classes in school and you panic a little when that familar-after-30min face leaves the room one by one. In your new small cubicle, you listen to people rushing by and making calls and the bustle both confuses and frightens a little. So many things to learn and so many names to remember and align with the right face :) All very overwhelming and tiring (to smile so often :)) And very cold.... it has been raining very heavily and now I am in air-conditioning all day now.
